Price Transparency Rules
The Solicitors Regulatory Authority Transparency Rules came into effect on 6 December 2018 and require authorised solicitors firms to display prices and service information if they are undertaking the following areas of work - residential conveyancing, uncontested probate, motoring offences, immigration excluding asylum, employment tribunal unfair and wrongful dismissal claims, debt recovery up to £100,000 and licensing applications for business premises. We do not undertake the foregoing areas of work.
For work on matters in the areas of law we undertake, clear information on our legal fees or range of fees including hourly rates and/or fixed fees, disbursement charges and VAT applicable based on our client's specific instructions together with the services we provide are set out in our firm’s terms and conditions of business agreement.
Complaints Handling Policy
We are committed to providing our clients with a high quality service and client care at all times. However, if at any point, you become unhappy or concerned about the service we have provided to you as our client then you should inform us immediately so that we can do our best to resolve the problem.
In the first instance, you may contact the person handling your case to verbally discuss your concerns and we shall do our best to promptly investigate your complaint with the aim of resolving any issues at this stage. If your complaint is not resolved within 14 working days of receipt of your verbal complaint, you may formally set out your complaint in writing supported by reasons to law@chanlegal.com. We will send you a letter acknowledging your complaint within 7 working days. Our firm's complaints handling procedure is also set out in our firm's terms and conditions of business for clients. We shall do our best to resolve your concerns by providing you with a final response within 14 working days of receipt of your formal complaint. Should we have to change any of the timescales above, we will let you know why.
If, for any reason, you are still not satisfied with our response to your complaint, you may contact the Legal Ombudsman to look at your complaint independently. Before accepting a complaint for investigation, the Legal Ombudsman will check that you have tried to resolve your complaint with us first. If you have, any referral to the Legal Ombudsman must be made within six months of receiving our final response to your complaint and no more than six years from the date of act or omission, or no more than three years from when you should reasonably have known there was a cause for complaint.
